Title: Cable routing

Any pictures of how the choke and advance cables are routed on the early 30-U?

Is there a difference from the 29u.  ?

I doubt there is a difference.  From what I can remember I think the timing cable gets attached to the studs for the valve covers and passes right behind the exhaust pipe before getting secured to the distributor arm.  It may also be attached at the firewall as there is a screw on the firewall to the right of the vacuum tank.  I don't see anything for the choke cable unless it gets attached to one of the brackets for the vacuum tank.  I have been looking at engine compartment pictures to see how the cables are routed but they're all over the place.  I wish I had taken pictures of mine before I took them off years ago!

This is how mine was.., I can swear that it is original.., I have only owned the car since 2004  But it seems correct ?

Both cables are attached to the top screw of the gas peddle linkage hinge bracket along with the oil gauge line.  Cables to left and the oil line to the right.  My oil line is the small black line in the picture.  The bright coper line is vacuum going to the oil pump

Thanks Chet.  That is interesting.  My oil line is on the other side of the engine right under the starter and on my car the line from the intake manifold to the windshield wiper is where your oil line is.  I see how the cables get held together on the firewall but where does the timing cable get attached after that point?  One thing I can see is that  the 30-U carburetor linkage is different than '29.  Mine comes off the back of the bell housing and is not attached to the firewall.  The mounting screw on the firewall is still there so I guess it is still used for the cables.  Do you have any idea what the opening right behind the vacuum tank is used for?

Manifold vacuum line for wiper motor.  Runs down and along side the vacuum tank.

Some differences, hopefully hear from others.
