I have a set of new zerk fitting for my 30U, but they are all straight. Hadn't thought about which ones are supposed to be angled. If one of you that knows would tell which go where it would be helpful.

Just got an eMail from Earl Buton, Jr. answering this question that I posed to him.

He stated that the early 28-33 Plymouths used the zerk fitting, either straight or angled depending on location. That the 34 was the first year to use the hydraulic (or Alemite) fittings.

When I had my 30U judged at last years POC meet in POrtland I was told that the correct one for the early Plymouth was the zerk style. Think I remember being told that Plymouth never used the pin type. Not sure when they changed over to the alemite fittings, but Earl Buton, Jr probably knows, I will eMail him.

Things are much better with the vibration problem. I found that I had a bad rear motor mount and had them revulcanized and that helped a lot. Still some minor vibration, but not sure what the original was like. Know that they come out with floating power, which was supposed to help with vibration problems, so maybe the 4 cyl is just supposed to have some.

Been to a couple of cruise ins and got best pre-31 at one show.

Yours is really looking good and see you have had it out as well.

Hi drum, Welcome. Nice looking car. Where did you come by it.

If you will post your serial number I can tell you (within a week) when your car was made.

From what I can see in the picture (wide raditor cover) it is a 30U, and yes they are correct, the 30U is the only one that had the horn on the light bar. The 28, 29 and 31 all had horns under the hood mounted to the engine block.

Oh, check your engine number, the original 30U engines had engine numbers that started with U.

I have an intake manifold if you still need one, sorry no original carb,  also think I have a spare horn, but have to see if it works.

I am also interested in putting toget the "correct" tool kit for my 30-U.

In the New Finer Plymouth Instruction Book, First Edition, April 1930 it lists the 16 items making up the kit, but no part numbers or pictures.

In the Plymouth Master Parts List, final edition, for all Models prior to 1934 all I find is parts numbers for Tool kit assemblies and bags. Again no pictures.

Will be watching this post for future info.

Your pictures match the hood locks (parts catalog reference) on my 30U.

According to the parts book this hood lock was used on Q, U, 30-U, and PA up tyo serial number 1627135. It lists a different number for PA after that number, and a diffferent number for PB.

With regard to the interior door handles and windo cranks. The ones pictured are often sold on eBay as for the early Plymouths, but they are not as original.

Picture below shows a door handle (broken) and the small handle for the windshield crank. These are the same as one two original 28 in our club and were originals on my 30-U. These are made of pot-metal and are very soft and break very easily. Reproductions in Stainless Steel are available from Verdone's Custom Stainless Casting, 31 Stricklerstown Loop Road, Newmanstown, PA 17073-9156. The last cost I have for the five handles for my coupe was $432.00 plus shipping, but they are available.

Here are two pictures of the tank mounted in my 30U. The straps are simple flat (thin) pieces welded to a flattened bolt like piece. This strap is adjustable for length as it is just stuck through the slot in the rear amd bent forward under itself. The strap is then extended forward under the tank and inserted into the front bracket holder and a washer and not attached.

I'm with you as I figure as long as we have someone around that does babbit correctly that is the way to go. I just thought if a bunch of you knew of a better way I would consider it.

I will advise on that fellow that had his 28 done.

The parts book lists (in the gas tank section) supports straps and "Anti-squeak (liner)". It indicates 2 needed for the Q, U, PA, PB, PC and PD.

For the 30-U it lists "Anti-squeak (to rear cross member lining). Also 2 needed.

Not sure what these were, as my car didn't have any.

Just info.

I didn't use anything on my car as there wasn't anything there before, but probably a good idea to use some belting or rubber.

I am looking for any insight you folks might have. I heard a rumor that there is a conversion process available to change the babbitt mains in the four cyl cars to common insert bearings.

If anyone knows anything about this process, what is involved, who might perform this work, and costs PLEASE advise.

HI, Hope thing are going well for you. Hope your weather is better than ours. Tough time all across the country.

On my 30U I find that I have to keep the radiator water down to the top of thelarge water inlet that comes off the end of the raditor hose, otherwise with expansion I get water blown out.

Good question about the thermostate. According to my parts book there is a "THERMOSTAT assembly" listed for the 30-U, PA, and PB. Part number 391269. I have no idea what it might have looked like as I don't have one either.
