Wire spoked rims

Does anyone know if a 29U came with wire spoked rims?  Mine has wood spoked rims but I have a chance to get some wire spoked with good tires on them that are said to come from a 29 Plymouth.  I'd like to have wheels to put on the car when I restore the wood spokes.

Ski,

Wire spoke wheels were available for the 29 as an option.  I'm not at home so I can't check the book right now but I believe they were around $5.00 per wheel additional charge.

Ski,

The Plymouth Master Parts List shows a different brake drum for wire wheels.  Group 22-B Brake Drums:

""Wheel brake drum (wire wheel) – Q, U after Y-024-PW U.S. Built and all Canadian built, 30-U up to 1558001 and also cars listed in Note 1.  and 2 group 22A and except cars listed in note 3  Group No. 3 group 22-A US built and up to 92002587 Canadian built is part number 44009.""

The book lists 4 pages of different combinations of drums and wheels.  Mostly in the 30-U category but there were still many versions.  Just a caution.!!!   4 or 5 hole drums seem to be an important item.

Jim B. is correct.., If you can also get the drums this might be best.  I have had trouble with 29 wood wheels.., in that they fit my car but my split rims didn't fit the wheel and I had to modify the position of the tire fill tube hole.

Good Luck,  Chet...

Maybe someone else can give you advice on this conversion.  I have no experience.

Thanks Chet.  I talked to the guy selling them today and he still has the complete front & rear ends so I may see about just getting it all.  He had fenders and other stuff as well so I may just go take a look at what he has.  He said the stuff was taken off a restored car that was hotrodded.  He didn't know if it was a coupe, sedan or what as he got all the stuff after it was removed.  If anyone out there has a need for anything let me know.  I may drive up there next weekend and have a look.

I am in need of the rear end hydraulic T connector.  Will pay $40.00.

Also if you don't plan on keeping them I might be interested in your old wood wheels.

Chet, I will try to get the tee if he still has the rear end. I heard back from him and he said he's not sure if the other stuff is still at the yard where he left it.  He will let me know when he finds out.  If all the remains are still there I will see if he has the running boards as well.  He indicated to me that there was a possibility that some of the stuff may have been removed as scrap by accident.

Thanks Ski,

I also currently have a lead on one.  If he still has it I would grab it anyway.  This part is one of those that doesn't break so if missing it is very hard to find.  Right now I have a functioning "T" but it's not original and held in with tie raps.   If my car required state inspection the inspector would flip..!  Like a lot of stuff in my car it's temporary until I can find the real deal.

Let me know, I hope he still has your wheels and drums.

He has the wheels in hand but I can't mount them without the drums.  The four tires are new.
