Wow, the support assembly is painted black.  I spent a lot of money having them plated.  Oh well...

They were plated already so I just assumed that they should be plated.  Knowledge is sad a day late and a dollar over spent.

Chet,  some clarification::

Outside metal I left natural metal, aluminium, are hub caps and running board trim.  Tail lamp was all chrome.  Outer bumper are black, but I have seen them in chrome.

Frank,

Just for clarification.  You state the tail lamp was all chrome does this also include the bracket arm.  Mine is black.

Also, on the bumper I found this note in the judging guide:

"Bumper: 1928 had double chrome bars with two grooves painted black; 1929 had double chrome bars.
The PD (1933) and PE(1934) front had a dip in the center."

I sent mine in for chrome including the rear ?  The judging guide doesn't say anything about black for 29U
We are talking about the item circled in the picture below:

I thought the 28Q had a single bar in the center of the bumper.

Very confused again,  Chet...

I was told by POC that the exterior Bright work was chrome this includes the headlamps for the 28 & 29.  The 30U, PA, & PC headlamps were painted.

The interior Bright work was nickel.

This is all I found for wheels:

Wood wheels should be painted. Wire and disc wheels were optional. Hubcaps embossed with an ornate “P”, but the Q’s were octagonal on the outer edge while the U’s were mushroom-shaped, with the octagon behind the head.

Early 1930U cars were fitted with the old style “P” hubcaps, while later cars got the new style that featured the word “Plymouth” inside a raised parallelogram design. Wood wheel equipped cars saw a change from the de-mountable type rims. Wire wheel equipped vehicles saw 2 changes - cars up to serial number 1518228 utilized a 5 lug bolt wheel, while most cars after that to car 1558001 used a 6 lug bolt pattern - cars built after 1558001 returned once again to a 5 bolt wheel pattern.

Frank,  What interior items did you find out were chrome ?

Also.., It was noted when John was discussing hub caps that the correct caps for 29-30 were mushroom-shaped, with the octagon behind the head.  Anyone know about the mushroom-shaped, without the octagon behind the head

Thanks John for the offer.  I don't see this as a big problem. The dash is easily masked so for now I think we will be OK.

Anyway still time before the car goes to paint. I have top door sills to make and also some other body work. I would like to finish with the needed repair to the door wood frames.  Maybe paint over the summer, we will see how much progress gets accomplished.

You're right about the Dash Frank, but I will still need it installed.  I don't want them disassembling the dash especially because of the obsolete surface screws.  I'll mask it with brown paper and paint it separately or work something out with the shop.  I would like to remove all the fenders.  It would make for sharp paint edges by painting the fenders off the car.  I think the painter might prefer doing it this way.   I'll talk with him when the time comes. In the very least I most definitely want the rear fenders removed and painted separately.  Still quite a bit away but getting ever closer.

Hi John,

That worked out great.  I know mine needs some work mostly because one of the hinges is frozen.  I'm light years from working on these types of details but thanks for posting.  It's good info.  Hopefully will be there sooner or later.

Russ, FYI:

From J&M Machine:

Hello Chester:
The rod bolts we received for your engine won’t work as he left off one dimension when I ordered them.
The correct one is ARP AR343-1 this bolt is right one fits Studebaker.

The Roof Lath

I took advantage of the summer like weather and made some incremental progress to the old car.
Due to the length of this task and the number of pictures I posted a link to the blow by blow description below:

General Discussion / Re: Master Cylinder Replacment Canister ORDERED
« on: April 05, 2018, 02:23:04 AM »
Just made the order for 15 canisters and lids. To figure what you owe the formula is as follows:
$5.39 ea. canister + $0.11 ea. lid + $6.00 shipping to you. For one canister the total is $11.50 Then just add for the
total for the number of canisters and lids you had ordered. You can make payment by going to www.paypal.me/RICHCARS . You
do not need a paypal account to pay this way. If there are any problems we will get it figured out. Just let me know. Happy Motoring! - Rich

I tried to put in $11.50 and it came up as 1500.  Also I tried to PayPal to your email address and it came up as John F.

Please Advise,  Chet...
