Nice, Chet!  Your effort will benefit all of us.

Second that!  Did you notice Chrysler wasn't as fussy and had the brake drums installed and then painted the assembly?  At least that how mine were with the spoke pattern on the drums.

Good going, Ted

Great guide.  Was the Fisher body wider than Hayes?  7 passengers in mine would be a bit personal.

Chet,

Good the title issue is in the can.

Like Jim Y, I too look forward to all you discover and your approach.  More than willing to offer suggestions along the way; good, bad, and terrible.  Did you place your level on the bottom of the frame?  frame probably slopes upward towards the rear?

Chet, what a nightmare!  Maybe the next person will have an epiphany as you explain every thing once again.  Best of luck.   frank

Chet,

Sorry to hear about DMV experience.  I also trying to change 28 to 29 in Minnesota.  Title change initiated Aug 26.  Article in last Sat paper said they are woefully behind - now serving June 21!  I certainly hope Delaware is faster and you don't have your car trailored for the next 3 months.  At least you have officials who want it correct , here it is a different situation.

Anyway, looking forward to you restoration.  At one point you had mentioned resto as a taxi, have you decided a final direction?  (2 sets of tires, hmm, $$$)

Best of luck,
frank

According to the parts book, Q and U are the same assembly.  Dave replaced his bearing and can probably provide a good number.   frank

Thanks, Chet.

I had no idea of your miserable weather this summer.  We've had periods of heavy rain and some underpass flooding, but nothing to compare with the Brazos in Texas or what happened in Baton Rouge area.  It really is hard to fathom and my heart goes out to those folks.

I'll say the space you have in your garage will rapidly disappear once you begin working on your 29.  Well, that's what happened to me, lol.  Keep us posted.

I've been looking at this poor plate for the last 51 years and decided to take some action after looking at Dave's.  Unfortunately I don't have a before shot.  It's not perfect, but you be the judge.

I took black gloss enamel and sprayed into plastic container.  Using a small, fine brush, I attempted to paint the shallow areas and wiped the high areas with a paper towel.  It is encouraging how it allows the letters and numbers to be read, especially the "8."  The chrome/nickel isn't perfect, but at least most of it survived the elements.

(Chet, you really need to get that 48 some exercise and have some fun.  Pack a picnic basket and take your wife for a drive!)

Rusty,

Yes, according to the parts book.  It is called a ferrule (use with production manifold)  Q, U, 30-U, PA, PN 5113.

Rusty,  Thanks for the reminder, I used Brake & Equipment Warehouse, too.

Back in late '60's I bought 4 new cylinders from Andy.  They did not fit correctly.  The rubber boots rubbed on the brake drum.  I was able to return without  problem.  I later had everything sleeved with stainless.  Pricey, but worth it.  They included all new pistons, rubber parts.  Same for the master cylinder.  They had to make the large copper washer.

If your cylinders are past the honing stage, I recommend sleeving.   frank
