Just clutch work only.

All went well I replaced the pressure plate with a solid state one which requires no adjustments and a clutch plate and flywheel/ring gear.

Took it for a spin and its fantastic!

Thanks for your advice.  :)

Rodney.

Hi Rusty,

I am in the middle of replacing my fly wheel/ring gear as I have a few teeth missing. I have removed the transmission but I am having some difficulty with dropping the clutch plate, fly wheel etc...

I have undone the fly wheel plate bolts but the three clutch release leavers on the pressure plate are caught on the clutch release fork.

Do I need to loosen the release leaver clamp screws?

Many thanks

Hi John,

I have a similar looking one on my 29U. It is mounted towards the rear end of the fuel line close to the tank. My vacuum tank works fine but I have the 6 volt electric pump for backup. You may need to put a pressure regulator inline.

Hope this helps

Hi

Here are a few pics of my 29U radiator. If you would like some more let me know.
Mine also had an honeycomb radiator.

With the type of gas we use down here (98 octane) I set my gap at 030".
With clean plugs it runs fine at idle & at high speed.

Hi Chet

I understand that the compression is low on the Plymouth; I might have a go at work it out using a compression calculator.

I've dropped and cleaned the sump made a new gasket and the Plymouth is back on the road ready for it next weekend away in September, this time it's only a short 340mile trip. I took it out for a drive on the weekend and all going well.

Many thanks, Rodney

Hi all,

I've just preformed a cylinders compression test dry & wet. Does anyone know what the manufactures pressure should be? All my measurements for the four are between 50-60 psi.

Many thanks

Hi all,

I dropped the sump and took some photos for you to have a look at. I gave the sump a clean out and there doesn't appear to anything to report on. I'll make up a new gasket replace the sump and oil and perform a cylinder compression test. Here are a few photos of the engine without sump.

Thanks for all your input.

Hi Chet

A compression test on the cylinders sounds like a good idea.  I also intend to drop the oil pan and clean it out. As for the air filter I used the original. I think I will start small and see what happens.

Many thanks, Rodney

Hi Chet,

Behind mine is a 1927 Sunbeam (An English Car) and the green vintage is a 1929 Pontiac roadster (chief of the Sixes). The other two are a 1968 MGB and the last one is a 1928 Oldsmobile. The Pontiac has done its big end  :(

After changing my oil it looks like I will need to replace the piston rings as the oil is filled with a lot of very fine silver particles. What size rings do I need and where can you recommend getting them from?

It was a wonderful trip but I think the Plymouth has paid the price. In saying that I would still do it again.

Hi everyone,

Well I'm finally returned from a successful 16 day club rally which took the Plymouth through some beautiful parts of Tasmania, Australia. All up it was a total of 1900 miles or 3057 kms.

The journey was very comfortable and we only had a few problems. A flat tire, some kind of fuel blockage which cleared it self after about 5 miles and an overcharging generator which upset the starter motor, not bad for an 80 year old vintage car!

We traveled with six other vintage cars of all different makes and models mine was the only Plymouth. I was using a lot of oil due to a rear bearing seal. The oil wasn't coming out from my exhaust but it was dripping out from the bell housing when I stopped. As long as I kept toping it up and checked my oil pressure I just kept moving forward. Any ideas on solving the rear bearing seal problem? Engine oil is cheap but I would like to fix it.

Thank you all for technical advice and helping in preparing the Plymouth your knowledge is priceless.

I would like to encourage all Plymouth owners to get out and experience what I have in the 16 days and 1900 miles it's worth it.

Enjoy :)

Hi all

I will be touring in Tasmania from the 13th July to 24th July 2009.

I was wondering if any members from Tasmania would be interested in catching up along the way.

The Vintage Motor Club, Sydney will have an assortment of ten or more different car makers built between 1919- 1930.

If anyone is interested let me know and I will forward you my travel plans?
