Steve,

At the end of Part 2 there is a note called "Under the hood" detailing the modification.

I found this link on the POC forum.  It is an interesting link to a story published in the Dec 4th & 11th issues of Old Cars Weekly.  The article is about an around the world journey of a 28 Plymouth roadster that a man named Quam recently completed.  Not counting the ocean part, the car was driven over 16,000 miles.

Interesting read for these winter months.

Any trips planned for the summer months ?

There is a clamp down near the headlight switch. You will have to remove the idle control lever and headlight switch.
The horn button will then slide out of steering coloum.
There is to screws that hold the horn button housing to lever rod.
The button will then come out with the wire attached.
I would connect a dummy wire to the end of horn wire. To aid in fitment of horn wire on instalation
Hope makes sense.
Ian

Ian,  How difficult is it to remove the idle control lever.  Do you have to pull the tube ?

Very Nice !! Great Job !!!

I have to do mine and none of the original wood remains.  Many years ago someone replaced it all with a piece of plywood.  Your pictures will be very helpful for my efforts to recreate a somewhat original look and feel to my old car.  I might start on this next year.

Again, Great Job...

  Or,

B) the timing did not go out (since the car continued to run) and it was a carb flooding issue that just brought the car to a halt?  I don't know, but I will dig into it some more this weekend.

Ted

Ted,

Just a thought.., If the timing was right on and everything else was OK I would think a carburetor providing too much gas would cause excess acceleration not a loss of power and a slow descent to a halt.  I think your timing shifted for some reason or some electrical fault.  If you get it running again paint on a timing mark that can be easily checked.  I had a 74 Pinto that did what you described and it was just a loose screw slipping the point gap.  The car's power slowly declined driving from NY to Vermont in a snow storm.  It got so bad that we had trouble climbing hills.   Timing and compression check would be my first moves.

Good luck,  Chet...

I'm wondering if it got too much gas and flooded causing the same symptoms, loading up and slowly shutting down.  When I pulled over, the carb was definitely wet with gas so much that it was also seeping out between the carb and intake.

Sounds like you are on the right track.  Frustrating I know, especially if you just wanted to go for a little drive.

General Discussion / Re: Paint for springs
October 01, 2014, 07:20:32 PM
Hi Ian,

I would think that where the spring elements come in contact with each other, these surfaces probably wouldn't be painted generally just some lubrication.  But this is just a guess.  I would think that any good paint that can hold back corrosion should be OK.  :)  We'll see based on any comments.

Hi Steve,

I hope everything heals up as expected.  Ted no news may be good news in that everything is working A-ok, fingers crossed.  I will be taking my 48 Plymouth to an airshow this coming weekend,  Hope it doesn't rain.  It's off topic for this forum but I will post a link to the pictures anyway.

Cheers, Chet...

Jim Benjaminson sells Goodyear Collector Series tires and he is also the Plymouth Owner's Club national secretary.   He would also have all the correct info for your particular car. you can reach him at:
