Paint for springs

Hi guys.
How has everyone been?
So i have been busy fixing leaks from the diff. Which has ended up being an almost rebuild. So far axle seal and bearings and diff assembly gaskets. Pinion seal.
So have thought to take this opportunity to clean an paint it a as well but just curious if there is a special paint to use on the springs. Does anyone know.

Hi Ian,

I would think that where the spring elements come in contact with each other, these surfaces probably wouldn't be painted generally just some lubrication.  But this is just a guess.  I would think that any good paint that can hold back corrosion should be OK.  :)  We'll see based on any comments.

It is not recommended to get paint between the leaves of the springs. We used to jack the wheels off the ground and put dry graphite between the leaves while they are apart. One important note they should be clean between the leaves first. It will make a noticeable difference in the performance of the springs. There is also available a treated fabric insert that can be put between the leaves for a cushion they work on. For no more miles that most of these cars are driven the graphite should be sufficient. Hope this helps. Use no oil as it will only hold grit make lapping compound. As for paint, a coat of primer and black Rustoleum will last a long time. Happy Motoring!  Rich [size]

Thanks for the replays
I will end up just cleaning the springs and painting them on some killrust gloss. Same colour as diff.
Current update on the diff. Ended up requiring pinion and carrier bearings as well. So she will be a complete rebuild rear axle. The bearings were dearer then expected but once done will not have to worry about it.
2 of the bearings are no longer in production but was lucky enough to get NOS.
Just lucky i don't need to pay someone to do the work.

What was the number of the differental bearings and where did you some? Thanks ----  Rich

Ill be picking up the bearings from AA bearings, a local bearing supplier here in melbourne on friday.He specialises in dodge and chev vehicles. but has books that go way back.   will post the bearings numbers as well as seal size dimension when i pick them up

Ok so the bearings numbers for rear axle are
Pinion: 3188, 3120, 3198, 3120
Diff carrier: 28153 x2, 28315 x2
Axle bearing: 14138a x4, 14276 x4
Inner axle seal: 1.375 x 2.313 x 0.438
Outter seal: 52 x 68 x 8 ( metric seal was just a conversion )

These outter seals are pressed into original seal casing. Easy to do and cheaper.
