General Discussion / Re: Oil Pressure Readings Down
October 23, 2015, 04:20:06 AM
Just a little query. To what extent was the engine rebuilt to. I dont want to be that person. But listening to the engine on your third video. Makes me concerned about the bearings. I only ask this cause my 28 sounds very similar which has been confirmed with slightly worn bigends.
But also maybe its just how they sound.
Here is a link to mine going up a long Hill. Its very noticably louder.
Like I said just what it sounds like through my speaker.

I could very well be wrong

General Discussion / Re: Generator not generating

So did you remove the cutout relay completely or put a diode in series with the relay.
I had trouble a while back where the gen decided to not regulate. Ended up being melted solders on the commutator. At the time it had one of those electronic voltage regulators. So I chucked that in the bin and went back to the third brush set up. All has been fine since.

General Discussion / Re: Hello? Beuller?

well from me, i broke a front leaf spring. so have had the front end overhauled. which has also included getting rust cut out of the front fenders and now replacing the valence panels. hopefully by the end of the year she will be back on the road.

Great to hear you are making progress. If all you have now is a little splutter at idle. More than likely its slightly burnt out valves. Mine does this also.
I cant speak on pump reg. As I am running vac tank.

I would say between 38-40pound
But mainly to have consistant figures between all cylinders

General Discussion / Re: Oil pump

I believe that the 28 and 29 pumps are the same. But it seem 30 31 list as a gear style pump.
Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Hope it fixes your issue. i have never had much success with doubling up gaskets. but i am not a fan of gasket glue. i believe the only time a sealant is required is when the item was not fitted with a gasket (like modern engines) or if it is to seal a thread.

I had the same issue with the exhaust gaskets blowing.
After 4 tries of different materials. I investigated the issue and found the 2 mateing surfaces were not flat.
I think I started a topic on it.
Will try and find it for you.
You might have the same issue.
Keeping in mind the original manifold to block gaskets were copper aspestos rings

Those comp readings are good nothing to worry about. If anything I would say cyl 1 n 4 slighty slow for smooth consistant firing. But again wouldnt worry. Thats not your issue.
Do you have any excessive free play in the distributor shaft. And have slighty small points gap.

That engine is running with a constant miss. don't believe its a vacuum leak caused miss. to me its a definite ign miss. I would be checking spark at each plug then checking firing order. A 4 cyl with start and run with 2cyl plug leads wrong. believe me i have done that a few times.
the play in the distributor is nothing to worry about. I'm pretty sure mine does the same thing.

General Discussion / model Q manufacturer date
February 28, 2015, 05:09:34 AM
Hi all
So I would like to know a closer date that my tourer was manufactured. Unfortunately I dont have the fedco badge. So am calling out to other Q owners who know there date and engine number. Mine is Q186007. I know this is only going to date the engine and would only apply if they put each engine in sequence and if it is the original.
But would still give me a month to go by.

General Discussion / Re: Oil Usage
January 20, 2015, 05:24:43 AM
hi steve,
i drove my car for 310ish miles round trip  that was at 45-50MPH continues only stopping for refuel.
i only noticed a slight blue haze on start up after a fuel stop. but developed a massive oil leak out of timing gear cover.
After the end of the trip the drivers side bonnet had oil runs all down and the oil level was half on the dipstick. can't remember how much oil it took. but thought it was good for an old bagga
the drive included a few steep hills. Was an excellent endurance drive. really made the engine shine in terms of strength and reliability.

Now back to your case. have you checked the plugs. they give u a good indication to which cyls are burning oil. if the are wet or have any build up. i would suspect that cyl.
in a perfect engine combustion world the porcelain should be white- light brown tan.
you will have a little oil weep past valve stems as they are not sealed
