Sealing to rear axel inner 1929
« on: March 02, 2019, 06:39:12 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can buy sealing parts for the rear axel, inner sealing (1929 U)?
The dimensions looks like 1 3/8 x 2 5/16?
I have asked Hagens auto parts but he don't have any.

Hi John,

From Tod's web site I copied this info.  The Timken#'s seem to be good.  You might want to check the Plymouth part numbers against what you are looking for.

40417 Differential bearing cone and rollers (Q, U, 30-U up to 1559672 US built and all Canadian built)
  Interchange/Vendor:  Timken 28157

40418 Differential bearing cup (Q, U, 30-U up to 1559672 US built and all Canadian built.)
  Interchange/Vendor:    Timken 28315

I think I miss understood your post.  I don't have info on the seals.  I think Dave came up with a solution I vaguely remember reading something about this in a past post.  Anyway there might be compatible seals for the Timken bearings. ?

Maybe this link might help you:

I donít buy enough bearings to recommend someone.  Basically though, if you have a modern bearing number just key it into your browser and you should come up with a dozen companyís selling the item.

If you have dimensions and are trying to match a seal try Granger.

See link to SKF Standard Single Lip Rotary Shaft Seals:

Good Luck,  Chet...

I didn't replace mine when I did the bearing. (I should have) I see myself pulling the whole rear end out sometime in the next couple years. Pinion is spraying oil, seals leaking etc.

When I pull the seal I will take it to these guys (see link below) rarely stumped, can usually cross reference an oil felt seal to a modern one. If you have the exact dimensions or maybe an old part number they can get you squared away.

I didn't replace it, but all bearing parts front and rear I did replace where from them. Probably pictures and part numbers in the old build thread. I know tractor guys use them as well for hard to find parts. They were good to deal with, but its been a few years since I have used them. Have a feeling I will be back soon.

About 15 years ago I found some new replacement inner seals. I will look and see if I have any left. I do not remember where I found them. I basically found some that were the same dimensions.

I have four seals left. These are made by Harwal and are nitrile and Steel, with a spring in them.  I sleeved my axel shaft first, since it was a bit worn.  The Harwal part numbers consist of the size and style. These are 1.375 x 2.363 x 0.438 ADL NBR . (ID x OD x depth, ADL is double lip, NBR is nitrile butyl rubber.

See www.harwal.com.   They are still listed on their web page.  You may have to buy more than two though.  If you want two from me, send me an email.
