FEDCO Plate

Does anyone know if the FEDCO dash plate had black paint in the recessed area, or was the entire plate unpainted steel?
I am trying to clean mine up before repainting the dash.  I have started polishing the FEDCO plate.

Mine was too corroded to tell.  I'm guessing it was nickle plated.  Don't recall seeing any black on Dave's.  Maybe he can confirm.    frank

It is black, except for the raised parts.
