I am not sure if the exterior mounting hole on the windshield trim is correct or not.  I assume that the mounting nails and any screws would be under the black rubber window trim.  I was going to repair these exterior holes until I noticed metal backing which might mean they were suppose to be there. Please advise ??

Chet, Here's some more pics from my parts hulk out back. Underneath the trim piece there is a rectangle cutout that allows the screw {wood screw with bell head) to pass through and simply screw into the wooden subframe under the top of the dash. The picture of the screw is the actual screw I took out of my car to see what it was.
