Anyone here ever that there steering box apart . Am I correct in the worm is not removable from column . Maybe someone has pic of parts laid out . Trying to find easiest way to ship . Maybe disassembling gear worm pitman shaft half ?

Yes I have had mine completely apart.
replaced upper and lower thrust bearings also replaced column bushings.

remove the 4 bolts that secure the sector shaft housing.
remove 2 bolt for lower seal
loosen top pinch bolt
remove large preload nut
shaft will slide straight out
worm gear is pressed and keyed onto shaft.

Thank you .  So you're saying worm gear can be removed from shaft and put on another . If that is case with gear sector shaft split and column cut near bottom  maybe able to ship in Flat rate box . Talking a C18358 from Q ,U's .
I was under impression on some units it was welded and had build in bearing race .

imoore

yes that is correct. I do have a disassembled steering box but currently not able to get you any photos, its up at the farm. Due to COVID19 not allowed to travel.

The sector shaft is a 1 piece casting with the teeth machined.
