General Discussion / Re: 29 Build Thread - Part 3

The Final Project - The Roof.

This report was getting quite long so I decided to post even though I'm not finished yet.
I have been working on other things so even though this is tedious work it hasn't possessed all my time.
I have spent more time researching the task than actually doing it.

PS... Thanks for all the kind words.  :)

Hi John,

It's been awhile I hope everything by you is good. Working on the final project the roof.
If I would have thought of it earlier I might have used Velcro on all the door panels. I guess hindsight is always 20/20.

General Discussion / Re: Air Cleaner/Silencer Question
September 28, 2020, 10:30:15 AM
Ted,

I believe my Air Cleaner is an original part but didn't remove it to check the part number.  I do have an RT08 Carb.

The air cleaner only fits into the carb if you loosen the screws that hold the choke cable in place.  Once the air Cleaner is in place you tighten theses screws to hold it in place.  I assume this is correct but have no documented proof.  Is this how yours works.

Hi Ted,

It may be awhile.  I am getting samples first.  Once they cut this stuff I can't return it.  :)

The good news is that this roof project will close the restoration odyssey.  Then state inspection and on the road again.

Yeah !!!

FYI... I was told by Jeff Buton (POC Tech Advisor for 29U) that the Long Grain material used for the Ford Model A was perfect for the 29U.

Also the Hidem Welt was fine for the trim.

Will order material Monday including the closed cell roof pad.  This now makes this job easy so I will do it myself.

Chet  do you have the numbers from casting on side of your U's steering box ?  Starts with C18358 . trying to determine if this serial or part number . Is on engine side near bottom next to shaft adjustment screw .
            Tom

Yes probably a part number. Mine is C18358 or C18858 had to use a mirror.  Probably 18358 like you said.

Thanks Ted,  I don't have a clue. These were the only two I could find that were wide enough for my roof.

Tom,

It seems that the forum doesn't like IE 11.  Had to use Microsoft Edge.

Tom,

If your steering box is the same as my 29 sedan then I think there is something in the instruction book. I'll check tomorrow.  I believe there was a discussion about this. Check the forum search engine.

General Discussion / Re: Rear Roof Trim
September 01, 2020, 07:28:02 PM
Thanks,  I have someone close that does these roofs and has done a number of model A's. I'm trying to get a handle to what the 29 roof looked like originally. Especially the rear top molding and sidelines. It's a little different than the coupe.  I still need to do some work to the roof before covering it. Just trying to touch all bases.
