General Discussion / Re: Drain Plug gasket

Touring29

If your engine is a 29U 175.4 cubic inches.., the Plymouth Instruction Manual Fifth Edition May 1929 calls for 1 Gal of motor oil.

Do you know your engine serial number.  From that we could check the period it was manufactured.  It might be that the motor was changed out.  If your engine is thermosyphon it is most likely 1929.  If it has a water pump and mechanical fuel pump it would most likely be the 196.1

Good advice.  Find out the dimensions than Google them.  OD. & ID.

Quote from: Russ T. Fender on March 26, 2022, 11:33:51 AMDon't wait to call him.  The squeaky wheel gets the oil.  He does great work but he's awfully slow and a little push can't hurt.

Good advice. I gave him a call today, hopefully we can move this along. We will see. :)

Fingers crossed.  The sooner the better.

Well I guess getting this one wheel respoked sooner isn't happening.  I dropped the wheel off in November 2021 and I am still waiting.  Hopefully soon.., at least before summer.  I guess I'll give him a call next week.  :(

General Discussion / Re: Driveshaft discs again
March 10, 2022, 02:03:50 PM
On the 29 Plymouth there are 5 disks. I believe 3 in the back and two by the transmission.  Search the general board for driveshaft disks.  I'll check when I get home.

FYI these disks were also used on vintage John Deere trackers.

Just an FYI... Mounting hump up isn't unheard of:

Lot better .  Mine totally different , so no help .
Also on different note Chet . I went back and forth on mounting mine hump down in window view or up as your last shows . Found answer in my owners book interior pic . Hump down .

Hi Tom,

Whether you mount it up or down doesn't change how it operates or where it parks the wiper.  I figured it best to eliminate any obstruction to the view.  I hope things are going well and hopefully a good summer for old cars.

Good question Tom, I was assuming an exterior mount.

Someone out there should be able to provide that info. I think you could guesstimate it knowing all the hardware.  You could try different configurations to determine the best distance.  Just a thought.

On the 29U the wiper mounting plate is used to allow for the removal of the wiper motor without having access to the interior side.  The bracket mounts to the body metal with little protrusion to the interior side.  This way there is no chance for the windshield to hit the mounting hardware when in the up or open position.  The spacers are welded to the bracket and drilled and tapped for the vacuum motor mounting screws.

The wiper blade is spring loaded to the window so there is a lot of wiggle room.  My setup uses a Trico motor which fits Ford exterior mount cars 1929-31.  I am also using the same Ford 8" wiper blade with a 6 3/4" length wiper arm.

I am not sure if this info helps you or not.

PS... Post a picture of where the wiper motor mounts.  I have been collecting parts for years and maybe I might have something you could use.

Good luck, Chet...

I don't know if the link below can help you, but this is what my 29 had and what I used.

Ted, Wish I could help you but the hinges on the 29 sedan are simple strap hinges.  It sounds like Touring29 has a good handle on the issue.  A little welding and some bushings sound like a great idea.
