The Reassembly Project

With the car returning home from the paint shop, the complete reassembly project finally starts.  In retrospect I should have had the car ready for paint when I removed the engine for rebuild.  With the car in the paint shop for about 4 weeks the level of dust from the bodywork performed in the shop really took the fresh engine rebuild look, down a number of notches.  The paint shop dust gets everywhere.   Of course with the engine project lasting a little over a year I did manage to have additional time to spend on body issues which produced excellent finished paint results.

Working on a freshly painted car is a little different than the disassembly.   I need to wrap my head around being especially careful not to damage or chip the newly painted body.

In an effort to reduce chipping paint the first thing I did was install 2 new rubber door bumpers per door.   Also I installed temporary door stop straps to eliminate stress on the painted door hinges.

In the first 6 to 8 weeks after paint the surface is still curing.   Since the weather is turning cold I will probably wait until spring to put a light coat of wax on the body.
I guess the painter got carried away when painting the Dashboard.   He painted all the interior metal and wood framing Black.  Actually I didn't request this and originally told him I didn't care about the over spray since the interior will be upholstered.  They didn't charge extra for this service and spent much more time masking everything perfectly.

My car's door frames and center pillar were black and he also painted them black.  I believe these should have been body color but they came out looking great so no complaints here.

The masking was incredible not even a spot on the wood flooring or roof  slats.

Well the plan for the winter is to do as much mechanical work as possible.   Brakes, drive train, electrical, windows etc..  Portions of these activities may be worked on simultaneously depending on the area of the car and what order of things makes good sense.  The fenders will be reinstalled after all the mechanical work is completed.
