Does anyone know if the Kingston Vacuum pump had a check valve mechanism.   I was using a electric pump but will be reinstalling the vacuum pump so any info will be helpful.  When I took mine apart I think I remember that the port on the top going to the oil pump had a rectangular metal tab extending about an inch or and inch & a half into the upper chamber.  I am not sure if there were any other parts beside this tab.  I just assumed I was missing the vacuum check valve, if one exists.  Anyone have a picture.  I will try to pull mine tomorrow and take a picture.

Does the standard intake manifold bolt up to this item.  The picture in the eBay ad does not have an intake manifold.

Also the last picture shows a chip in what I am assuming is the heater output which would be routed to the inside of the car.  Am I seeing this correctly?  Why are there two output holes ?

Since the board has been so quite I will post another update.  The cold weather that has rolled into the neighborhood has put the brakes on my wood working project.  See the link below for my progress to date.

New Hinge Pillar Installation

This will be my last update for a while.  Everything I have done to date to the driver's side of my car I will be reversing and doing to the passenger side.  Since the methods are the same I don't see any reason to post the blow by blow description.  Will start posting again once I reach a point of new work.  Please see the link below.., just to much to post in this thread.

Since the roof of my car is off and probably wasn't correct anyway, I would like to install a strip of wood across the top to hold the door frames in their proper position before I tighten down the door pillars.   What I need is:

The distance between the rear doors.  See picture below:

I agree.  I was just curious about the seat belts because I think some states require them if you are going to register the car with regular plates.  In my rant I was speaking about driving my 48 Plymouth.  I've been on the NJ Turnpike with the 48 and have experience a couple of nail biting moments.  The extra break light is always a good idea especially in traffic.

I thought someone on this forum had one of these.  I hear you about the drafts.  The entire body on my car was held in place by 4 out of 16 possible bolt down points.  The only window that actually rolled up and down without assistance was the passenger side because I replaced the glass and fixed the channels a number of years ago.  I guess after 88 years and an unknown number of owners I'm lucky anything survived.  Do you live in a cold area.  I can't believe it is February and we are having repetitive 60+ degree weather here in the southern northeast. (Southern Delaware State)  High 55 today then we warm back up to the middle 60's for the weekend.  ??  If this keeps up I might even finish my car sooner than later.

Hi John,

Were you required to put in seat belts by the state or was that a personal choice ?  Some folks give you a break when on the road with a classic car, yet others just don't understand that stopping can be a real challenge without the comfort of antilock brakes.  I really have a problem when I am doing 55 in the right lane and keeping the required 1950 distance from the car in front of me then some wise guy jumps in between and then slams on his brakes. $@$%@$%$#@$@ Many expletives and hand singles follow.

I wonder how the algorithms for self driving cars will respond to a 48 or 29 Plymouth on the road.  Oh well we can always rely on the hand singles.

UPDATE:

Old Man's words of wisdom are exactly correct.  I am trying to stay as close as possible to the original construction of the Plymouth frame but have to work with the tools and information I have at hand.   Obviously working without formal templates, drawings, or special tools; I try to construct as close as possible to the engineering intent and not the exact construction methods used in the period the car was built.

As I peel back the onion on this car the task is as daunting as ever but we are taking it one step at a time.  Hopefully the end product will be worth it.  As the Old Man said what you can't see is between us...
